Qatar has been accused of sponsoring terrorist groups in Somalia, including Al-Shabaab for many years to score its influence goals in the country.

Speaking to the VOA Somali service, an unnamed official at the US embassy in Mogadishu said Washington will revaluate backing the SNA's Danab trained by the American military. 

The rally comes a day after Al-Shabaab carried out a deadly attack on a key military base in Amara village located in the southern part of the Mudug region.

US military has been battling Al-Shabaab in Somalia for over a decade, killing the group's most senior leaders in drone strikes.

The government has not said the country that belongs to the warplanes bombed Al-Shabaab, but the US military is known for carrying out such attacks inside Somalia, weakening the group’s power.

The American forces were pulled out of the country under the executive order of Donald Trump, former US president before he left the White House last January. 

Since the beginning of this new year, the Somali army recaptured key towns in the south and central region in an effort to avert the threat of the terrorist group to the election.

The airstrike which was the third in the region within two months struck a convoy of vehicles carrying Al-Shabaab fighters. 

During his unannounced visit, the head of AFRICOM has held talks with Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe on the war on Al-Shabaab and plans by Washington to resume airstrikes against Al-Shabaab.

“There's no denying that the repositioning of forces out of Somalia has introduced new layers of complexity and risk,” Army Gen. Stephen Townsend said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

The United States Department of State threatened to sanction and travel restriction against Somali President Farmajo after he has signed a controversial bill extending his term in office by two years.

The implementation of the divisive bill could pose serious obstacles to election dialogue and further undermine peace and security in Somalia as it violated the provisional constitution of the country.
